About
the Artist
ROBB
KURTH was born in Ohio. He attended the Cleveland Institute
of Art, majoring in Graphic Design/Illustration and Photography.
Robb has been a professional artist, designer and photographer
for 38 years. In 2001 he was honored with the Cleveland Institute
of Art’s Certificate of Outstanding Achievement Award for his contributions in the United States to the field of
graphic design, illustration and photography. Robb was a designer,
illustrator and art/creative director at CBS-TV in Cleveland
and on moving to the Western states held the same positions
at NBC-TV in Burbank, California. While at NBC he was awarded
two Emmy’s, an International Broadcasting
Award and numerous
Awards of Merit from the Los Angeles Society of Illustrators.
He was a primary creative artist on many network shows and
specials including Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show,
Hollywood Squares, The Dean Martin Show, Hollywood Squares,
Sanford and
Son, and created “Body Painting” on Laugh-In. While
in Hollywood Robb also had the opportunity to work at CBS,
Metro Media and Universal Studios. In addition to his professional
contributions in art and photography, Robb has also taught
life drawing, design and advertising at the collegiate level.
Robb has exhibited in galleries across the United States
and has had several one-man shows. His art has been collected
around the world. Although much of his art is realistic in
nature, Robb considers himself an impressionistic abstractionist
and works with spatial orientation, form, negative space, and
brilliant color.
In 1978 Robb moved to Steamboat Springs,
Colorado, where he helped create the Steamboat Springs
Magazine and Visitor’s
Guide. He was the magazine’s initial art/creative director.
It was during this time period that Robb re-discovered the
passion that he felt for the wilderness and beauty of Colorado,
the West and the South West. “It’s a wonderful
feeling to see the smiles and delight on peoples faces as they
reconnect with nature through images that I’ve created,” he
says. “I’m constantly looking for those special
details that on occasion hide in plain sight. I want to take
the viewer on a journey to the emotional and intimate relationship
I have with my subject matter. My foremost goal is to faithfully
create (re-create) the image I first experienced personally
with my own eyes!” Robb feels privileged to have realized
his artistic dreams, being a professional artist and photographer
for most of his life. He has always felt fortunate to play
a role in people’s lives in an artistic way; sincerely
hoping the beauty he has captured and created with his photographic
eye will enhance and contribute to our lives, in the love and
respect of our natural world. Robb looks forward to creating
and recording the beauty of Colorado and the West for many
years.
